We have defined gethostname in our code and running it against php5.3 fails with an error message saying that it is already defined. Nothing in the upgrade documentation indicates this new function and it doesn't have its own documentation on the php.net site. I finally found out the issue by searching the internals email list.
So, I doubt it will get pulled, but documentation to indicate that it is a new function would be nice. As well as any new functions like this.
