BugsAlert Home > MS08-016 ? Critical: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (949030) - Version:1.1

Severity Rating: Critical - Revision Note: V1.1 (March 12, 2008): Bulletin updated. FAQ added to clarify the reason why a non-vulnerable version of Office will be offered this update. Also removed MS07-015 as a replaced bulletin for Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3.Summary: This security update resolves two privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a malformed Office file. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
